Enzo Maresca Led Chelsea Thrash European Champions PSG 3-0 To Win FIFA Club World Cup New Edition—-Cole Palmer scored two goals and made another as Chelsea stunned Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Club World Cup on Sunday, beating the European champions 3-0 at the MetLife Stadium to win the first edition of FIFA’s new competition.

PSG were the favourites for a game attended by Donald Trump after coming to the United States fresh from winning the UEFA Champions League and having destroyed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals.

But having been three goals ahead midway through the first half in the semis, this time the roles were reversed as PSG found themselves 3-0 down by the break.

Palmer opened the scoring midway through the first half and struck again to make it two on the half-hour mark, before taking advantage of passive defending to set up Joao Pedro for the third on 43 minutes.

A bad day for PSG was summed up when Joao Neves was shown red following a VAR review four minutes from the end for pulling Marc Cucurella by the hair off the ball.

It was a scoreline that few could have predicted as Chelsea capped what has been a long but memorable season — they are the first ever winners of the 32-team Club World Cup having also won the UEFA Conference League and finished fourth in the Premier League.

They will also take away around $125 million in prize money, meaning the prospect of a drastically curtailed summer break before returning for next season will surely feel worth it.

For PSG, meanwhile, the financial rewards are similar but there will be genuine disappointment at falling short of adding this title to their Champions League triumph and French league and cup double.

Nevertheless, conquering Europe was always the main aim this season for Luis Enrique’s team, who now have exactly a month to digest this and take a holiday before returning to action in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.

– Trump in attendance –

There was a real sense of occasion at the MetLife Stadium, with the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline and with President Trump in attendance along with First Lady Melania Trump in a crowd of 81,118.

There was even the first-ever half-time show at a FIFA tournament, adding a Super Bowl feel to a final played at the home of NFL sides the New York Giants and New York Jets.

As for the football, for the second time in six weeks PSG found themselves involved in a final that quickly turned into a one-sided affair.

The club claimed a historic 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final, but here they were ripped apart by Chelsea on another hot afternoon.

Palmer almost put Chelsea ahead inside the opening 10 minutes, before PSG should have scored at the other end only for Desire Doue to try to pass to Achraf Hakimi rather than shoot inside the box, allowing Cucurella to block.

It was Chelsea who struck in the 22nd minute as Malo Gusto got the better of Nuno Mendes down the right before seeing his shot blocked by Lucas Beraldo. The ball came back to Gusto and he teed up Palmer to finish into the bottom-left corner.

Palmer has been the face of Chelsea on billboards in the United States during the tournament and he lived up to his star billing by scoring again on the half-hour.

Released on the right with PSG left-back Mendes out of position, Palmer advanced towards the box before stroking a low shot into the same corner.

Joao Pedro played a part in the build-up to that goal and the Brazilian, signed during the tournament from Brighton, then got his name on the scoresheet to make it 3-0.

Scorer of both goals against Fluminense in the semi-finals, he clipped a shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma after being supplied by Palmer.

PSG had conceded a single goal in their previous eight matches and they never really looked like producing a comeback, even if Neves headed just wide in first-half stoppage time.

Substitute Liam Delap almost got a fourth for Chelsea midway through the second half, before Neves was shown red to complete a bad day for PSG.

BOAT: Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2008 Season Leads Ballon d’Or Greatest Vote With 62%

BOAT: Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2008 Season Leads Ballon d’Or Greatest Vote With 62%—-Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic 2007/08 campaign at Manchester United leads the Ballon d’Or of All Time fan poll, ahead of Lionel Messi’s historic 2012 season.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s outstanding 2008 season has emerged as the leading choice in the Ballon d’Or of All Time (B.O.A.T.) fan vote, with the Portuguese superstar reportedly securing 62 per cent of the votes.

The initiative, organised by France Football, invites supporters to select the greatest Ballon d’Or-winning season in the award’s history, bringing some of football’s most celebrated legends into the spotlight once again.

According to reports published on Tuesday, October 20, Ronaldo’s first Ballon d’Or-winning campaign remains comfortably ahead of the other contenders as voting continues.

Ronaldo’s Historic Manchester United Campaign

Ronaldo won his first Ballon d’Or in 2008 after a remarkable season with Manchester United, during which he played a key role in the club’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League triumphs.

The Portuguese forward scored 42 goals across all competitions during the 2007/08 campaign, establishing himself as one of the world’s leading players and earning the prestigious individual award at just 23 years old.

His performances combined goalscoring, pace and attacking influence, helping Manchester United secure major honours under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The award also marked the beginning of Ronaldo’s five-Ballon-d’Or career.

Messi’s 2012 Season Trails in the Vote

Lionel Messi’s 2012 Ballon d’Or-winning season is reportedly in second place with 13 per cent of the votes.

Messi’s 2012 campaign remains one of the most statistically remarkable individual years in football history, as he scored a record 91 goals for club and country during the calendar year.

However, the current poll focuses on fans’ choices among the greatest Ballon d’Or-winning seasons rather than determining the official winner of the award.

Ronaldo’s 2008 campaign and Messi’s 2012 achievement have once again brought their historic rivalry into focus, with supporters debating which season deserves the greatest recognition.

Ten Football Legends Included

The B.O.A.T. vote features 10 multiple-time Ballon d’Or winners, including Ronaldo, Messi, Ronaldo Nazário, Marco van Basten, Michel Platini, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Kevin Keegan, Franz Beckenbauer, Johan Cruyff and Alfredo Di Stéfano.

The contest allows fans to compare standout seasons from different generations, placing modern football icons alongside some of the sport’s greatest historical figures.

Reports indicate that voting is scheduled to close on October 27, with the final outcome expected after the voting period ends.

A Fan Vote, Not an Official Ballon d’Or Award

Although Ronaldo currently leads the poll, the result remains provisional while voting is ongoing.

The initiative does not change the official Ballon d’Or record. Ronaldo has won the award five times, while Messi has won it eight times.

For now, Ronaldo’s 2008 season holds the reported lead in the fan-led contest, underlining the lasting impact of his Manchester United performances and the continuing interest in comparing football’s greatest individual campaigns.

BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Silence on Portugal Exit, Accuses Jorge Jesus of Breaking His Word

BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Silence on Portugal Exit, Accuses Jorge Jesus of Breaking His Word—-The 41-year-old Portugal captain apologised for leaving the national-team camp but said he remains available for selection after serving any punishment imposed by the Portuguese Football Federation.

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence over his controversial departure from the Portugal national team camp, accusing head coach Jorge Jesus of breaking his word twice and revealing the circumstances that led him to walk away from the squad.

In a lengthy statement released on Tuesday, October 6, Ronaldo gave his own account of the dispute, while also apologising to his teammates and Portuguese supporters for leaving the camp ahead of Portugal’s Nations League fixture against Denmark.

Despite the fallout, Ronaldo made it clear that he has not walked away from international football and remains willing to represent Portugal again.

“If I’m physically fit, playing for my club and scoring goals, after serving whatever suspension is imposed on me, I’ll be available, as I have always been until now, to compete and win for our national team,” Ronaldo said in his statement.

Ronaldo Reveals What Happened

According to Ronaldo, his initial discussions with Jorge Jesus were centred on managing his workload because of his fitness.

The Portugal captain said Jesus had originally agreed that he would miss the matches against Norway and Denmark as part of a plan to manage his physical condition.

However, Ronaldo claimed that shortly before the Norway match, Jesus told him he would play for approximately 30 minutes.

Ronaldo said he subsequently warmed up from halftime but was never introduced.

“Everyone knows the rest. I warmed up from halftime onwards, watched the minutes tick by and wasn’t called on,” Ronaldo said, describing the incident as the first occasion when Jesus had broken his word to him.

The forward said the situation became even more difficult after a subsequent meeting involving Jesus and Al Nassr sporting director Simao Coutinho.

Ronaldo said they agreed that Jesus would publicly clarify the circumstances surrounding his decision not to use him against Norway.

An eight-point document was reportedly prepared, with Ronaldo saying it made clear that he had never demanded playing time, had respected the coach’s decisions and that asking him to warm up without eventually introducing him had been a mistake.

However, Ronaldo claimed that Jesus’ subsequent public comments did not reflect the agreement they had reached privately.

He therefore accused the coach of breaking his word for a second time.

“It was the second time he had broken his word to me,” Ronaldo said. “I decided to leave the training camp without waiting for any further broken promises.”

Ronaldo Apologises to Portugal

Ronaldo also accepted responsibility for his decision to leave the squad.

The veteran forward apologised to his teammates for abandoning the training camp and admitted that his position as Portugal captain made the incident more serious.

“I owe an apology to my national team teammates for having left the camp,” Ronaldo said.

He also apologised to Portuguese supporters for failing to greet them following the Norway match.

However, Ronaldo insisted that he believed leaving was ultimately the right decision after he felt his continued presence could negatively affect the team.

He said he was prepared to accept whatever disciplinary action the Portuguese Football Federation decides to impose.

“The consequences of my actions must be assessed and punished by the Portuguese Football Federation,” he stated.

Ronaldo Rules Out a Permanent Exit

Despite the controversy, Ronaldo insisted that his future with Portugal remains open.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner rejected the suggestion that he was simply seeking a farewell appearance before permanently ending his international career.

He said Portugal may eventually organise one or more farewell matches, but stressed that his immediate priority remains competing for the national team rather than simply receiving a ceremonial goodbye.

Ronaldo’s statement therefore leaves the door firmly open for a return once any suspension has been served.

“I will be available, as I have always been until today, to compete and win for our national team,” he said.

Jorge Jesus Gives a Different Account

Ronaldo’s version of events has not gone unchallenged.

Jesus previously denied that he had reached the specific agreement described by Ronaldo, while also making clear that the door to a return remained open.

The Portugal coach has maintained that Ronaldo can return to the national team if he wants to, leaving the next step largely in the player’s hands.

The Portuguese Football Federation had not immediately issued a response to Ronaldo’s latest statement.

Ronaldo’s Portugal Future

The dispute comes at a delicate stage of Portugal’s international campaign, with the team progressing under Jesus while Ronaldo’s future remains uncertain.

Ronaldo’s latest statement, however, removes one major question: he has not closed the door on Portugal.

At 41, the veteran captain remains determined to contribute whenever he is fit and selected, even after acknowledging that his decision to leave camp could result in disciplinary punishment.

For now, the focus shifts to the Portuguese Football Federation, which must decide whether Ronaldo will face a suspension and how the latest dispute will affect his relationship with Jesus and the national team.

Ronaldo’s message was ultimately clear: the departure was a consequence of what he described as a breakdown of trust — but it was not a declaration that his Portugal career is over.
