AfroBasket 2024: D’Tigress Win Fifth Consecutive AfroBasket After Beating Mali 78-64—-Nigeria women’s basketball team, D’Tigress have become the first team to win the FIBA women’s AfroBasket five times in a row after they defeated Mali on Sunday night in Abidjan.

The Nigerian ladies, led by coach Rena Wakama, were trailing by five points at the end of the first quarter but pulled off an incredible comeback to win 78-64 at the final whistle.

D’Tigress have now won the championship for a total of seven times, still trailing all-time leaders Senegal who have won it 11 times.

Since Nigeria’s last defeat in 2015, the team have remained unbeaten for 28 games in Africa’s flagship competition.

Nigeria started the 2025 campaign with a win over Rwanda before also beating Zimbabwe in their second game to qualify for the quarterfinals.

D’Tigress went on to beat Cameroon in the quarterfinals, then defeated rivals Senegal in the semifinals to land in the final, where they have now seen Mali off.

Mali led the first quarter 26-21, D’Tigress fought back to level 41-41 at the end of the first half. The third quarter ended 61-56 in favour of Nigeria before the final quarter closed with 78-64.
