Eguavoen Breaks Silence On Quitting Super Eagles Coaching Job—-Augustine Eguavoen, the interim coach of the Super Eagles, has confirmed that he remains in charge of the Nigerian national team, despite recent confusion about his position.

According to OwnGoalNigeria, Eguavoen’s initial mandate was limited to overseeing the team’s matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Eguavoen, who was appointed interim coach after German coach Bruno Labbadia declined the role due to disagreements over tax payments, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.

He noted, “I have been given a mandate to handle two games. I am very pleased with the boys and grateful to the NFF leadership and all the players for their discipline and hard work.”

However, he clarified that his current role does not extend beyond these two matches, stating, “It ends today, which is the two games mandate. I can’t discuss the Libya match or future arrangements yet, as I haven’t been informed.”

Upon arriving at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Eguavoen addressed rumors suggesting he had stepped down. He stated, “It’s unfortunate that there are incorrect reports circulating. I will be discussing with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership about the next steps for the remaining qualifiers.”

Eguavoen emphasized, “What people are reading is not correct. I am still very much in charge as the technical director of the federation and responsible for the Super Eagles at this moment.”

Under Eguavoen’s guidance, the Super Eagles secured a 3-0 victory against the Benin Republic and played to a 0-0 draw with Rwanda in their qualification campaign.
