Osun: Again, APC Disowns Aregbesola, Says Ongoing Party Membership Registration Illegal—-The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called on the party’s National Secretariat to hasten the suspension of former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola.
The Osun APC alleges that Aregbesola’s actions have become a source of distraction for the party at the state level.
According to the Osun APC, Aregbesola is no longer considered a member due to his open opposition to the party’s interests. This follows reports that Aregbesola has established a group named The Omoluabi Progressives (TOP), which began registering members on Sunday.
In response to these developments, the APC held a stakeholders meeting at its secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State. The party issued a communiqué signed by Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, stating, “The party has not started any membership registration in the state. Any form of registration on behalf of the party is unknown to any organ of the party; therefore, members should ignore such registration in whatever form.”
Lawal added that the official inauguration of the train-the-trainers workshop for electronic membership registration will occur in Abuja, as announced by National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. He clarified, “Any ongoing or previous registration in recent times is unknown to any party organs.”
APC Secretary Kamoru Alao further explained, “The registration will start tomorrow after the national chairman inaugurates the committee that will train the trainers at the local levels. We are discouraging our loyal APC members from registering with Aregbesola’s group because TOP is not a recognized part of our party in Osun state.”
Alao emphasized, “As far as we are concerned in Osun APC, Rauf Aregbesola is no longer a member. We have taken steps three times to notify the national secretariat that Aregbesola is causing distractions in APC affairs in the state, urging them to take necessary action.”
Meanwhile, Benedict Alabi, the former deputy governor of Osun State, expressed confidence in Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy. Oyetola lost his re-election bid in the last governorship election after a fallout with Aregbesola. Alabi stated, “Anyone calling for Oyetola’s dismissal is merely playing politics. Everyone knows he is a silent worker and achiever. When establishing a new ministry, you need to put many structures in place. I am sure those calling for his dismissal under political pretexts will regret their words when they see the outcomes of his efforts.”
The Osun APC’s call for Aregbesola’s suspension underscores the internal conflicts within the party and highlights the need for resolution to maintain party cohesion in the state.
