Real Madrid Cruise Past Manchester City In The Champions League Round of 16 as Fede Valverde Hits Stunning First Half Hat-Trick—-Federico Valverde delivered a stunning first-half hat-trick as Real Madrid cruised to a commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Heading into the encounter, Madrid were dealing with several injury setbacks, with key stars such as Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo unavailable. However, captain Valverde stepped up spectacularly, dismantling City’s defence with three goals in a devastating 22-minute spell.
Despite a bright start from Pep Guardiola’s side, it was Madrid who struck first after 20 minutes. A long ball from Thibaut Courtois caught the City defence off guard, allowing Valverde to race through before calmly finishing past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Uruguayan doubled his tally just seven minutes later after reacting quickest to a loose ball following a pass from Vinícius Júnior, driving a powerful low shot beyond Donnarumma.
Valverde then completed his remarkable hat-trick before halftime, finishing off a swift counter-attack. Vinícius led the charge before the ball found Brahim Díaz, who cleverly set up Valverde to fire home a thunderous volley and leave City stunned at the break.
Madrid continued to threaten after the interval and nearly extended their lead when Donnarumma fouled Vinícius inside the area. The Italian goalkeeper redeemed himself by saving the Brazilian’s penalty.
City pushed for a response, with Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo going close, but Madrid’s defence, marshalled by Antonio Rüdiger, held firm.
The emphatic win gives Madrid a huge advantage heading into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, leaving Manchester City with a daunting task if they are to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
