Russian FSB Nabbed A Nigerian Professor For Migrant Smuggling—-A Nigerian professor, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been apprehended by Russian authorities over allegations of facilitating illegal migration from Africa through Russia to European Union countries.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia announced on Thursday that it has dismantled a smuggling network reportedly led by a Nigerian academic. The Moscow Times reveals that the individual in question is a senior lecturer at the engineering faculty of the People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN).

The FSB’s operation targeted a trans-regional network accused of aiding the unlawful entry and movement of migrants from Africa through Russia en route to the EU. Although the name of the Nigerian professor was not released, the FSB confirmed the arrest of five prominent figures within the smuggling operation, including individuals from Russia, Nigeria, and Ukraine.

The FSB also indicated that the investigation is ongoing to uncover further collaborators. The network is believed to have generated approximately $650,000 since 2021 through the issuance of fraudulent Russian residence permits and visas.
