Why Finland Should Repatriate Simon Ekpa Now – Gov Mbah—-Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has called on the Finnish government to extradite Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based figure who claims to be a disciple of Nnamdi Kanu.
Mbah criticized Ekpa as an opportunistic businessman exploiting the suffering of the Igbo people and urged Southeast residents to ignore his sit-at-home directives.
The governor expressed frustration over Finland’s continued harboring of Ekpa, who he claims is responsible for inciting violence that has led to significant loss of life and property.
These comments were made during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, who were visiting the state to review security measures and the progress of the Department of State Service (DSS) Training Institute construction in Awgu.
The governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to ending the sit-at-home order imposed by non-state actors that has psychologically and economically impacted the Southeast region. He condemned Ekpa for exploiting local fears and tensions to benefit himself while living comfortably in Finland, a country known for its adherence to the rule of law.
Mbah reassured residents of Enugu that their safety is a top priority and called on them to disregard Ekpa’s threats. He asserted that his government, with the support of security agencies, is capable of maintaining order and will not yield to intimidation.
The governor also expressed surprise that the Finnish government allows Ekpa to remain in their country while allegedly inciting unrest in Nigeria.
He urged the Committee to investigate the matter and seek Ekpa’s repatriation for justice.
