African Games: Sports Minister Urges Team Nigeria To Shatter Every Record—-The Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, has charged athletes to the 2023 African Games  in  Ghana, to emulate their  compatriots by attaining lofty heights and setting new records.

The Minister gave the charge in a statement by Diana-Mary Nsan, his Special Assistant on Media on Friday in Lagos.

“With the stage set and the competition fierce, all eyes are on the track where history waits to be made once again.

“With just eight days remaining until the commencement of the highly anticipated African Games in Ghana, excitement is mounting among athletes and fans alike,” he said.

The minister who the country’s past excellent appearances at the Games, urged Nigerian  contingent not to settle for less but raise the bar even higher.

Enoh said “just like Deji Aliu, I am urging you all to do wonders in Accra and shut down the tracks with your speed and agility.

“This is the kind of moments where legends are made, thus I am charging you all to go for gold and go for broke,“he said.

Team Nigeria will depart the shores of the country on March 4, as Africa converges in Accra. The Games holds between March 8 and March 23.

NAN reports that past Nigerian athletes who broke records included the likes of Deji Aliu, Uchenna Emedolu and Raymond Ekevwo.

Aliu holds the esteemed record for the fastest 100-meter finish ever recorded in the African Games, a remarkable feat achieved in 2003 when he blazed through the track in an astonishing 9.95 seconds.

Emedolu’s lightning-fast finish of 9.97 seconds in 2003 remains etched in memory, and Raymond Ekevwo, whose electrifying run in 2019 saw him cross the line in 9.96 seconds.
