Mykhailo Mudryk Cleared to Return to Football, Chelsea Confirm Hong Kong Reunion

Mykhailo Mudryk Cleared to Return to Football, Chelsea Confirm Hong Kong Reunion—-The Ukrainian winger is free to return to competitive football immediately after an agreement between the FA, WADA and the player ended his suspension, with Chelsea confirming he will link up with Xabi Alonso’s squad on their pre-season tour in Hong Kong.

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to resume his professional career after his four-year doping ban was rescinded, paving the way for an immediate return to action with the Blues.

The Football Association confirmed that disciplinary proceedings against the 25-year-old had been resolved through an agreement involving the FA, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Mudryk following his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Under the agreement, the period he has already served on suspension is deemed sufficient, allowing him to return to competition with immediate effect.

Mudryk had originally been handed a four-year suspension after testing positive for meldonium in a sample taken while on international duty with Ukraine in 2024. Although he accepted responsibility under the anti-doping regulations, the winger consistently maintained that he had never knowingly taken a banned substance. During the appeal process, changes to WADA’s technical guidelines meant that the concentration detected in his sample would no longer be considered an anti-doping rule violation under current testing standards, contributing to the resolution of the case.

In a statement released after the decision, Mudryk described the past two years as the most difficult period of his career and expressed relief at finally being able to return to football. He thanked his family, legal team, Chelsea and supporters for standing by him throughout the lengthy process, adding that he is now fully focused on rebuilding his career on the pitch.

Chelsea also welcomed the outcome, reiterating the club’s support for the Ukraine international. The Blues confirmed that Mudryk will travel to Hong Kong in the coming days to link up with Xabi Alonso’s squad as preparations continue for the 2026–27 campaign. The club plans to carefully manage his reintegration after almost two years away from competitive football, with fitness assessments expected before he returns to first-team action.

Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 in a deal worth up to £89 million and remains under contract at Stamford Bridge. Despite his enforced absence, the London club retained faith in the winger throughout the legal process and now hope his return will provide a timely boost ahead of the new season.

The decision brings an end to one of football’s most closely followed anti-doping cases and offers Mudryk the opportunity to revive his Chelsea career under Alonso. With the legal uncertainty finally behind him, attention now turns to whether the talented winger can rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers before his suspension.

FIFA Launches Disciplinary Probe Into Argentina Over Misconduct At The 2026 World Cup

FIFA Launches Disciplinary Probe Into Argentina Over Misconduct At The 2026 World Cup—-World football’s governing body has launched multiple disciplinary cases against the Argentine Football Association and several players over incidents ranging from political displays and discriminatory behaviour to post-final altercations during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA has opened formal disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and several members of the national team over a series of alleged breaches committed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The governing body confirmed on Tuesday that it is investigating multiple incidents involving Argentina throughout the tournament, including the display of a politically charged banner following the team’s semi-final victory over England, allegations of discriminatory chants and gestures, team misconduct, security and protocol failures, as well as violent scenes that erupted after the World Cup final defeat to Spain.

Central to the investigation is the display of a banner reading “Las Malvinas Son Argentinas” (“The Falklands are Argentine”) after Argentina’s semi-final triumph. FIFA regulations prohibit political, ideological or religious messages during official competitions, and the governing body is assessing whether the display breached its disciplinary code. Argentina were previously fined over a similar incident during the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA is also examining reports of discriminatory chants, inappropriate gestures, late kick-offs and security shortcomings involving both supporters and team officials during the tournament. The disciplinary committee said all alleged breaches would be reviewed before any sanctions are imposed.

Separate disciplinary cases have also been opened over the chaotic scenes that followed Argentina’s 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain in the World Cup final. Midfielder Leandro Paredes, defender Nahuel Molina and assistant coach Roberto Ayala are among those facing allegations of assault and unsporting conduct after confrontations involving Spanish players and officials at the final whistle. Other players from both teams are also being investigated for their involvement in the post-match altercations.

Under FIFA’s disciplinary process, the Argentine Football Association and the individuals involved will have the opportunity to submit their responses before any verdict is reached. Potential sanctions could range from financial penalties and suspensions to stadium restrictions or match bans, depending on the severity of the findings.

The proceedings mark one of the most significant disciplinary investigations of the 2026 World Cup and come after Argentina finished runners-up following their extra-time defeat to Spain. FIFA has stressed that no conclusions have yet been reached and that all parties are entitled to present their defence before the disciplinary committee delivers its final ruling.
