Chelsea Hijack Manchester United Top Target Liam Delap, After Reaching Agreement With Ipswich Town—-Chelsea and Ipswich Town have reached an agreement over the transfer of Liam Delap.

The England Under-21 international has a £30million ($40m) release clause in his contract at Ipswich that became active following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The 22-year-old’s personal terms are not anticipated to be a problem and he is now expected to move to Stamford Bridge.

The Athletic reported earlier on Thursday that sources at teams including Manchester United, Newcastle United, Everton, Nottingham Forest, AC Milan and Juventus — speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships — had been informed the striker was heading elsewhere.

Ipswich signed Delap from Manchester City, where he made just six first-team appearances, in July 2024 in a deal worth an initial £15million ($19.2m) plus an additional £5m following their promotion to the English top-flight.

Despite Ipswich’s struggles at the wrong end of the table and subsequent relegation, Delap enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, scoring 12 goals in the Premier League.

He spent the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons across Championship loan spells at Stoke City, Preston North End and Hull City respectively, where he scored 12 times across 70 matches.

Delap, whose father Rory played 11 times for the Republic of Ireland, has been capped up to under-21 level for England.

Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, meanwhile, is a player of interest to Ipswich, who have been keen on him for some time. It is possible, though not guaranteed, that the 19-year-old Spaniard goes the other way on loan.

Having scored 12 of Ipswich’s 36 league goals, Delap has often been tasked with generating his own chances with limited service from his team-mates.

In a counter-attacking Ipswich side, Delap’s powerful, driving runs forward were a theme of his season as he has shouldered much of the attacking responsibility with a return of 10 non-penalty goals — at a rate of one in three — for his efforts.

Whether it is thumping finishes from range or delicate flicks at the near post, Delap is in a rush to get on the scoresheet. A desire to get forward is the bare minimum for a striker, but Delap is something of a throwback — an out-and-out striker who is desperate to stretch the opposition back line.

Frank Lampard Guides Coventry City to Historic Premier League Promotion After 25 Years

JUST IN: Ex Chelsea Manager Frank Lampard Guides Coventry City to Historic Premier League Promotion After 25 Years—-Coventry City have secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, completing a remarkable turnaround under head coach Frank Lampard.

The Sky Blues confirmed their return to England’s top flight following a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers, with a late equaliser sealing the crucial point needed to clinch promotion.

Lampard, who took charge of the club in 2024, has overseen an impressive rise, guiding Coventry from mid-table struggles to Championship leaders. His side’s consistency throughout the 2025/26 season saw them build an unassailable lead at the top of the table, ultimately securing automatic promotion.

The achievement marks a major milestone for Coventry City, who last played in the Premier League during the 2000/01 season. After years of setbacks, including spells in the lower divisions, the club has now completed a long journey back to the elite level of English football.

For Lampard, the promotion represents one of the biggest successes of his managerial career, silencing critics and reaffirming his credentials after previous stints with Chelsea and Everton.

Celebrations erupted among players and fans alike, as Coventry’s return to the Premier League signals a new chapter for the historic club.

SC Freiburg Make History with Dominant Win Over Celta Vigo

SC Freiburg Make History with Dominant Win Over Celta Vigo to Reach Europa League Semis—-Freiburg booked a historic place in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals for the first time after a commanding 3-1 win over Celta Vigo, sealing a 6-1 aggregate triumph.

Julian Schuster’s side, who carried a 3-0 advantage from the first leg in Germany, finished the job in style away from home with goals from Igor Matanović and a brace by Yuito Suzuki.

Freiburg effectively ended the contest before half-time, scoring twice in quick succession. Matanović opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a powerful volley after a clever build-up involving Matthias Ginter and Jordy Makengo.

Suzuki doubled the lead six minutes later, combining neatly with Jan-Niklas Beste before finishing calmly. The Japanese midfielder added his second early in the second half, converting from close range after a flowing team move set up by Vincenzo Grifo.

Celta Vigo managed a late consolation through Williot Swedberg, but it did little to change the outcome as Freiburg cruised through.

Having already broken new ground by reaching the quarter-finals, Freiburg now advance to their first-ever European semi-final, where they will face either Real Betis or Sporting Braga.
