Explore Diverse Musics Of Africa Like Lekompo, Asakaa– Spotify Urges Music Lovers—-Spotify, an online music streaming platform , says music lovers should look beyond exploring Amapiano and Afrobeats music and make conscious efforts to embrace other music genres.

Spotify’s Head of Music, Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, in a statement in Lagos said music lovers should realise that Africa was bursting with underground talents, artistes blending tradition with raw energy.

She said lovers of music must look into genres like Lekompo, Asakaa, Dancehall, Fuji, Gqom among others.

According to her, music enthusiasts have been unconscious of array of incredible African music diversity that should be explored.

“Afrobeats and Amapiano own the spotlight right now. Those irresistible Afrobeats hooks have got the whole world dancing. And Amapiano’s hypnotic blend of South African house and street sounds are straight-up addictive.

“Mainstream African artistes are pushing the boundaries like no one else, taking Amapiano and running with it. They are injecting their own fire, creating a whole new flavour.

“This is proof that African music is a living, breathing thing, always evolving, always surprising, always rooted in the soul.”

Okumu, however, noted that some of the artistes creating diverse and evolving sounds across sub-Saharan Africa were: Kaestyle, Kold AF, Sigag Lauren, Kah-lo, Yaadman, Lemon Adisa, Mr Thela and many more.

She said Africa’s music scene was a sonic melting pot, where rhythms collided and cultures connected.

“It is a universal language, a force that breaks boundaries and fuels the soul. This sonic tapestry isn’t just diverse, it is explosive.

“Music fans, it’s time to delve deeper! Beyond the mainstream spotlight, a treasure trove of music awaits.

“So, don’t limit yourself, explore, discover, and immerse yourself in the incredible diversity that African music has to offer,” she said.

The arrival of the late actor’s remains has drawn family members, friends, colleagues and residents to Ilaro as preparations for his final rites get underway.

Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, at the age of 66, following a battle with stage-four cancer. His death was confirmed by his daughter, Kira Hassan, and announced by veteran actor Jide Kosoko.

Nollywood Stars Arrive to Honour Ogogo

Several prominent figures from the Yoruba film industry have already arrived in Ilaro to pay their final respects to the celebrated actor.

Burial to Follow Islamic Rites

Ogogo’s burial is expected to be conducted according to Islamic rites.

Earlier announcements from the Ilaro Muslim Community stated that the burial prayer would take place at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground in Ilaro. Reports from local sources put the prayer at 10:00 a.m., while an earlier announcement by Jide Kosoko had listed an 11:00 a.m. lying-in-state ceremony at the Ilaro Pavilion.

Born in Ilaro on October 31, 1959, Taiwo Hassan became one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba cinema.

He began his acting career in the early 1980s and eventually became a full-time actor after years of working in other professions. Over the decades, he built a reputation through memorable performances in productions including Owo Blow, Omo Ghetto, Omin, Tenant of the House and Aníkúlápó.

His contribution to Yoruba-language filmmaking earned him a lasting place among Nigeria’s most respected veteran actors.

The arrival of Ogogo’s remains has brought the actor’s remarkable career and final journey back to the community where his life began.
