JUST IN: Nigerian Lawmakers Propose 6-Year Tenure For President, Rotation Among Zones—-A group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives is advocating for significant alterations to the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria to introduce the rotation of the Presidency among the six geo-political zones of the country.

Additionally, they are pushing for an amendment to establish a single six-year tenure for the President and Governors.

Speaking on behalf of the group on Monday in Abuja, Ikenga Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato South/Ideato North Federal Constituency in Imo State, outlined the benefits of these proposed changes. He highlighted that these amendments would contribute to reducing government spending and wastage, improve efficiency in governance, and promote national stability.

“The reduction in government spending and wastage, efficiency in governance, and national stability by providing a single term of six years for the President and Governors will go a long way in cost-cutting measures,” Ugochinyere stated.

The proposed amendments aim to address long-standing issues in Nigerian politics, including the high cost of election cycles and the political instability caused by frequent re-election campaigns. By rotating the Presidency among the six geo-political zones, the lawmakers hope to ensure a more equitable distribution of power and foster a sense of inclusion among the diverse regions of the country.

These proposed changes will require rigorous debate and approval by both the National Assembly and the state legislatures before they can be enacted. If successful, they could mark a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, aiming to create a more stable and efficient system of governance.

JUST IN: Akwa Ibom Governor Appoints Daughter As Acting First Lady, Says No Money To Pay Another Bride Price—-Governor Umo Eno has appointed his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, to assume the role of First Lady of Akwa Ibom State in an acting capacity after the death of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.

The government said the decision comes as a way to continue her legacy, especially her pet project, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).

The decision was made known during Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s condolence visit to the Eno family in Uyo on Friday, while praising the governor’s decision, stating, “This is a thoughtful way to sustain Patience’s legacy, much like practices in the United States.”
Governor Eno, reflecting on his deep bond with his late wife, said, “I married her when she was 19, and I was 22. I called her Oluwa-Kemi because she was truly a gift from God.”
He added, “Her passing is an irreplaceable loss for me. She was my embodiment of the biblical virtuous woman.”

On the transition of the First Lady’s duties, Governor Eno introduced Helen, saying, “It is not an easy task ahead, but I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office.”

Senator Tinubu also offered words of encouragement to Helen, saying, “Your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing. I believe God will guide you.”

Addressing rumours of remarrying, Governor Eno joked, “I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon. I don’t have the money to pay another bride price.”
He stressed that his late wife’s legacy would continue through Helen, who will coordinate the First Lady’s office and its programmes.

•Minister Of Power, Adebayo Adelabu WhatsApp Number has been Hacked.

THECLOUDNGR The WhatsApp number of Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reportedly been hacked, prompting a warning from his spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji.

The announcement was made in a brief notice sent to the Daily Post by Tunji on Thursday night.

Tunji urged Nigerians to ignore any requests for money or financial assistance originating from the compromised phone number, stating, “HM of power number has been hacked on WhatsApp. Kindly disregard any appeal for money or any assistance for financial support through the number 08022901928.”

This incident follows closely on the heels of similar security breaches involving other government officials.

Just six days prior, the WhatsApp number of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, was hacked, and earlier, the same fate befell the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh.

TCN recalls that the WhatsApp number of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, in August was also hacked by fraudsters, leading to an attempt to defraud several of his contacts.

The incident came to light when some individuals on the governor’s contact list received messages from his WhatsApp number, requesting that money be sent to a specified account with a promise of a refund later.

In a related incident, Osun State Government, in July issued a public alert on the security breach of Governor Ademola Adeleke‘s official telephone number.
