2024 GRAMMYs: #Tyla Wins First-Ever #GRAMMY Award, #Burna Boy, #Davido And #Nigerian Superstars Lost—-I never thought I’d say I won a GRAMMY at 22 years old,” the South African singer said.

Although coming up against stiff competition, including massive Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Davido, Tyla’s hit song “Water” proved undeniable for GRAMMY voters.

davido has three nomination but fail to win as he was humbled at the 66th annual grammy award in Los Angeles.

It was a disappointing outing for Nigerian Afrobeats stars at the 66th Grammy Awards as Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, Ayra Starr, Olamide and Asake failed to win from 10 nominations across five categories.

The Nigerian contingent lost the inaugural ‘Best African Music Performance’ trophy to South-African singer Tyla who earned the prize with her 2023 track, “Water”.

All the categories the Afrobeats stars contended in were announced at the Grammy Premiere ceremony where dozens of prizes are handed out before the main live telecast show.

2021 Best Global Album winner Burna Boy and compatriot Davido lost the category this year to Shakti. The world fusion band won with the album, “This Moment”, besting Burna Boy’s “I Told Them”, Davido’s “Timeless” albums, and others.

The duo did not fare batter in the corresponding Best Global Music Performance category, losing to Indian composer Zakir Hussain for the track “Pashto” featuring Bela Fleck and Edger Meyer.

Meanwhile, Lil Durk’s collaboration with J Cole, “All My Life” put paid to Burna Boy’s hopes of winning any trophy out of four nominations by claiming the Grammy for Best Melodic Rap.

This is despite the fact that the self-professed African giant was billed to perform the nominated track in that category, Sittin’ on Top of The world’ with the featured American rapper 21 Savage, at the live telecast ceremony.

Tems who won her first Grammy last year in the Best Melodic Rap category for her collaboration with Future and Drake on the track ‘Wait for You’, lost in the Song Written for Visual Media category.

Her work on the Black Panther theme song ‘Lift me Up’ performed by Rihanna, lost to ‘What Was I Made For’ performed by Billie Eilish for the 2023 fantasy drama ‘Barbie’.

Nigeria Rap Act Olamide Released Self Titled Album “Olamidé” Featuring Wizkid, Asake, Dr Dre and Many More

Olamide Released Self Titled Album

Nigeria Rap Act Olamide Released Self Titled AlbumOlamidé” Featuring Wizkid, Asake, Dr Dre and Many More—-Nigerian rap act Olamide aka {Baddo} has officially released his highly anticipated self-titled album, “Olamidé”, marking his 11th solo studio project and one of the most star-studded in his storied discography.

Dropped today, June 19, 2025, via YBNL Nation and Empire Distribution, the album packs 17 tracks, featuring collaborations with Afrobeats heavyweights like Wizkid, Asake, Seyi Vibez, Popcaan, BOJ, and even an appearance from global legend Dr. Dre

Originally slated for June 3, the album’s release date was postponed: first moved to June 9, and finally delivered on June 19. The lead single, “Kai!”, was released on April 28, 2025. Produced by Eskeez and Semzi, the upbeat, flirtatious afrobeats track pairs Olamide’s magnetic flow with Wizkid’s signature melody. It has already made waves — landing in Nigeria’s Top 10 charts and peaking at #10 on Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart.

Choosing to self-title this album signals a milestone—suggesting a deeper, more introspective journey into Olamide’s artistic identity, akin to personal statements made through his past works.

Olamide’s trajectory—from street-inspired rap on early albums like Rapsodi and YBNL to genre-blurring growth in UY Scuti (2021), Unruly (2023), and the genre-defying Ikigai EP (2024)—is well-documented. With Olamidé, he presents a refined mélange of introspection, swagger, and cross-genre bravado.

Olamidé isn’t just another album — it’s a statement. By naming it after himself and backing it with a wide array of collaborators, Olamide reasserts his position as the “voice of the street” and a global Afrobeats ambassador. With his signature hustle, lyrical depth, and genre-blending prowess, it’s clear: this self-titled project was engineered to resonate on both local and international stages.
