BREAKING: NNPCL Confirms Buying 16.8 Million Litres Of Petrol From Dangote At N898 Per Litre—-The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) has confirmed that it bought petrol from Dangote refinery at N898 per litre and has so far received 16.8 million litres of PMS.

In a chat with Nairametrics, the Corporate Communications Manager of the company, Olufemi Soneye stated that claims that it bought PMS at N1,300 or N760 were incorrect and the N898 was the current loading price.

He said, “We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today. The claim that we purchased it at N1,300 per liter or N760 is incorrect. For this initial loading, the price from the refinery was N898 per liter. The price is determined by market forces. Its a deregulated market. I can also confirm, in response to inquiries, that we will receive 16.8 million liters.”

The NNPC began loading PMS from the Dangote refinery on Sunday 15th September, 2024 after months of delays both from the NNPC on the price and other business details and also the final work on the part of the refinery.

Before operations began, Femi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer (CCCO) of NNPC Ltd, announced on Saturday that by the end of the day, at least 300 trucks would be positioned at the refinery’s loading gantry, ready for the scheduled petrol loading on Sunday, September 15.

Backstory

Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, recently announced that NNPCL would serve as the exclusive off-taker for refined petrol from the Dangote Refinery.

  • During the Technical Sub-Committee meeting on the sale of crude oil to local refineries in Naira, Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), representing the Finance Minister, explained that while diesel from Dangote Refinery would be available for purchase in Naira to any interested off-taker, PMS (petrol) would only be sold to NNPCL, which would then distribute it to various marketers.
  • Additionally, he confirmed the finalisation of agreements and procedures for implementing the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval, which allows for the sale of crude oil to local refineries in Naira and the corresponding purchase of petroleum products in Naira. This decision was previously endorsed by the FEC under President Tinubu’s leadership.
  • The government explained that this initiative was designed to ease pressure on the Naira, cut down on unnecessary transaction costs, and enhance the availability of petroleum products across the country.

JUST IN: Folarin Balogun Scores but Sees Red as USA Beat Bosnia to Reach World Cup Round of 16

JUST IN: Folarin Balogun Scores but Sees Red as USA Beat Bosnia to Reach World Cup Round of 16—-The USMNT defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in Santa Clara to book a last-16 clash with Belgium, but the victory was overshadowed by Folarin Balogun’s controversial red card after the striker had opened the scoring.

The United States booked their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a determined 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, overcoming the dismissal of star striker Folarin Balogun to continue their impressive run on home soil.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side endured a nervy start at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium as Bosnia threatened through Ermedin Demirović, forcing goalkeeper Matt Freese into two excellent early saves. Despite Bosnia’s bright opening, the hosts gradually settled into the contest, dominating possession and creating the better opportunities.

The breakthrough came just before halftime in the 45th minute. A high press forced Bosnia into surrendering possession near midfield, and after Malik Tillman’s attempted pass deflected kindly into Balogun’s path, the Monaco striker calmly slotted a left-footed finish beyond the goalkeeper to score his third goal of the tournament. The strike made Balogun only the third American player to score three or more goals in a single FIFA World Cup.

The match took a dramatic turn in the 64th minute when Balogun was shown a straight red card following a VAR review. Referee Raphael Claus upgraded the incident to serious foul play after reviewing Balogun’s challenge on Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemović, leaving the United States to play the remainder of the match with ten men. The dismissal means Balogun will miss the Round of 16 clash against Belgium through suspension.

Despite the setback, the Americans showed tremendous resilience. With Bosnia pushing forward in search of an equalizer, Malik Tillman produced a moment of brilliance in the 82nd minute, curling a superb free-kick into the top corner to double the lead and effectively seal qualification. Matt Freese completed an outstanding evening by preserving his clean sheet with several key saves late in the contest.

The victory sends the United States into the Round of 16, where they will meet Belgium in Seattle in one of the standout ties of the knockout stage. However, Pochettino will be without his leading scorer after Balogun’s dismissal, a significant blow as the co-hosts aim to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 2002.

While Balogun’s evening ended in disappointment, his goal proved crucial in setting the United States on course for victory. Combined with Tillman’s spectacular free-kick and a disciplined defensive display, it was enough to keep the Americans’ World Cup dream alive as they prepare for their toughest test yet against Belgium.

BREAKING: Sad End as Wasteful Senegal Crash Out of World Cup, Belgium Complete Stunning Comeback to Reach Round of 16

BREAKING: Sad End as Wasteful Senegal Crash Out of World Cup, Belgium Complete Stunning Comeback to Reach Round of 16—-The Red Devils recovered from two goals down to defeat Senegal 3-2 after extra time, ending the Teranga Lions’ World Cup dream in heartbreaking fashion despite a dominant display for much of the contest.

Belgium produced one of the most remarkable comebacks of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat Senegal 3-2 after extra time and secure a dramatic place in the Round of 16.

The Teranga Lions looked destined for a famous victory after outplaying Belgium for long periods at Lumen Field in Seattle, but a late collapse and clinical Belgian finishing turned jubilation into heartbreak as the African side bowed out of the tournament.

Senegal started brightly and deservedly broke the deadlock in the 24th minute through Habib Diarra, whose composed finish capped an impressive attacking move. The African side continued to dominate proceedings with their aggressive pressing and quick transitions, preventing Belgium from establishing any rhythm.

The Teranga Lions doubled their advantage six minutes after the restart when Ismaïla Sarr controlled a superb pass before firing powerfully beyond Thibaut Courtois to make it 2-0. With Belgium struggling to create meaningful opportunities, Senegal appeared firmly in control and on course for the biggest win of their World Cup campaign.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the closing stages. Belgium, who had looked lifeless for much of the contest, found a lifeline when Romelu Lukaku pulled one back with just minutes remaining. The goal sparked belief within the Red Devils and injected panic into the Senegalese ranks.

Barely moments later, Belgium struck again to level the score at 2-2, completing an astonishing late comeback and silencing the Senegal supporters. Having squandered several chances earlier in the match, Senegal suddenly found themselves heading into extra time after letting a seemingly unassailable lead slip away.

Extra time proved equally dramatic. Belgium continued to press while Senegal attempted to regroup, but the decisive moment arrived when the Red Devils converted the winning goal to complete a sensational 3-2 turnaround. Despite throwing everything forward in the closing minutes, Senegal could not find another equaliser as Belgium held on to seal one of the most dramatic victories of the tournament.

For Senegal, the defeat will be remembered as a painful lesson in missed opportunities. The Teranga Lions created enough chances to put the contest beyond Belgium’s reach but failed to capitalize, allowing their European opponents back into the game. Their World Cup campaign ends in bitter disappointment after a performance that deserved far more.

Belgium, meanwhile, march into the Round of 16 showing the resilience and fighting spirit that has defined many of their greatest tournament performances. After staring elimination in the face with only minutes remaining, the Red Devils somehow found a way to keep their World Cup hopes alive and will now prepare for their next knockout challenge with renewed confidence.
