No Better Alternative To Democracy As A Form Of Govt –Bauchi Governor—-Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed has opined that there is no better alternative to democracy as a form of government hence all stakeholders must work collectively to sustain it in Nigeria.

Mohammed made the assertion on Wednesday in a good will message on the occasion of June 12, 2024 democracy day.

“That we are today celebrating the 25th Democracy Day is a testimony to the fact that democratic governance has not only been firmly rooted but has also come to stay in Nigeria,” he stated.

“There is no better alternative to democracy as a form of government that gives the people the right to choose who to govern them and how they want to be governed”.

He explained that democracy had given him the legal platform to deliver dividends of democracy to his people.

“It is now one year since I was re-elected to serve the good people of Bauchi State for another four years,” he disclosed.

“My re-election is a testimony of the confidence reposed in our administration by the people”.

Mohammed has been celebrated for construction of both urban and rural areas roads, construction and rehabilitation of schools and health facilities, water supply, supply of agricultural inputs and machineries, human capital development through economic empowerment, among many other initiatives.

“I want to assure you that we will not only sustain the tempo during our second tenure but will strive to improve upon our performance,” he stated
“The various projects we executed during our first term were in line with “My Bauchi Project,” a blueprint we had developed even before our election in 2019.

“In order to improve on our performance during our first term, a technical committee was constituted to review the blueprint with a view to assessing the level of delivery of dividends of democracy and recommend how to address any grey areas and the way forward.

“With the review of the blueprint, our second tenure is witnessing aggressive execution of life touching projects across the State.
“While completing all ongoing projects, new ones have been embarked upon. Infrastructural development in the areas of road construction, construction and rehabilitation of educational and health facilities, water supply, agricultural inputs and machineries would continue to receive the desired attention.

“Priority would also be given to human capital development through economic empowerment, especially of our teeming youth. Security is also on our priority list.
“We would therefore, continue to collaborate with and support security agencies to rid the State of crime and criminal elements”.

Governor Mohamed advised that for the gains of democracy to be sustained, the country must break from overreliance on oil as a source of revenue.
“Due to uncertainty in the global oil market, there is the need for us to look inwards to diversify our economy,” he advised.

“This will entail boosting agriculture through provision of adequate inputs, encouragement of farm mechanization and deployment of extension workers to guide our farmers for improved crop production and animal husbandry.
“The solid minerals and tourism sectors would also be given the priority they deserve.

“Government would also continue to provide enabling environment to facilitate the ease of doing business for the establishment of new commercial enterprises and improve the existing ones. Small and medium enterprises would also be supported to thrive”.

He reiterated the commitment of his administration to sustain accountability and transparency in governance.
“The resources at our disposal would continue to be judiciously used for the common good of the people of the State,” he assured.

“We would continue to ensure value for money for the projects that would be executed. To this end, the resources we have would be deployed for maximal effect on the socio-economic development of the State.

“We cannot afford to embark on projects that have little or no effect on the wellbeing of the generality of the people of the State”.

On the current economic hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy the State Government in collaboration with relevant Federal Government agencies has taken appropriate measures by providing palliatives in form of food and nonfood items to bring succor to the people.

“We will continue to work hard to bring the hardship to an end,” he promised.
“I would like to appeal for your continued understanding and cooperation as we strive to salvage the situation”.

Mohammed promised that participatory democracy and inclusiveness would continue to be the hallmark of his administration.

“We would carry along the various segments of the State to give them a sense of belonging,” he stated.
“Inputs for good governance of the State would be welcomed from individuals and organizations through appropriate channels.

“We consider each and every one resident in the State a stakeholder.
“As stakeholders therefore you have roles to play either as individuals or groups, in the socio-economic development of our dear State”.

He also promised that the trust and confidence that the electorate had reposed in his administration would not be taken for granted.

“We have re-strategized to faithfully justify the confidence by providing more dividends of democracy across the State,” he stated.

“I humbly appeal for your continued support, cooperation and understanding as we strive to make Bauchi State a place that we will all be proud of”.

Bugaje Accuse APC of Using Money

Bugaje Accuse APC of Using Money, EFCC Threats To Weaken PDP Through Defections—-Former member of the House of Representatives and ex-presidential adviser Dr. Usman Bugaje has accused Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), of systematically using money to induce defections from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking in an interview with Arise News, Bugaje claimed that the APC has been aggressively targeting opposition figures, leveraging both financial incentives and potential legal threats.

His words: “Well, for what I know—and I don’t claim to know everything—the APC is basically using money to buy off PDP.

“Some say it’s a carrot and stick approach. The money is the carrot. What’s the stick? Possibly the EFCC. They might do these kinds of things. This has been the practice since the time of President Obasanjo.”

Bugaje argued that the root cause of the ongoing wave of defections is money, warning that such practices pose a grave threat to Nigeria’s democratic system.

He said: “For me, this is a very serious issue. This should be the center of our political discourse. As long as money remains the determining factor, then that’s the end of democracy and the end of politics.”

His comments come in the wake of a major political shake-up in Delta State, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who was also the PDP’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, defected to the APC. They were joined by members of the National Assembly, State Assembly, and several local government chairmen.

Bugaje stated that he is skeptical about the PDP’s ability to function as an effective opposition.

“There has not been real opposition since the moment Nyesom Wike did what he did,” Bugaje said.

“The PDP missed its chance to be a viable opposition party. Just look at their conduct on major national issues—from emergency rule debates to budget discussions. They failed to act like an opposition,” he added.

Atiku is the Messiah Nigeria needs, says Former Lagos PDP Chairman Aeroland

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Segun Adewale, says former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is the Messiah Nigeria needs now and he can fix the economy.

Adewale, a former Lagos State Chairman of the party, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that no one should write off Abubakar politically or tell him to leave the PDP.

Recalls that some critics of Abubakar’s presidential ambition, including former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George and former Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State had advised the former vice president not to run on the PDP platform in 2027.

While George on Wednesday told Abubakar to immediately resign from the PDP over an alleged anti-party activities, Fayose said he would work against his presidential ambition, if he decided to contest in 2027.

Speaking, Adewale popularly known as Aeroland, said that no one should play God over the ambition of the former vice president.

“He (Abubakar) has been tested and tried as part of the few politicians with contentment, and he has never given up.

“He has been in power, he understands Nigerian politics. He knows our challenges compared to other politicians that just want to grab power to get wealth.

“Atiku is one of the politicians that I know that is satisfied with whatever he has. Most others politicians, like his critics, are gluttons.

“It is unfortunate that the unrelenting opposition that Atiku has is still in the PDP, his party, not even outside PDP,” Adewale said.

According to him, it is sad that members of the PDP are still the one vehemently opposing Abubakar’s planned coalition to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for PDP, and return the party to power.

“Anyone within PDP saying Atiku should not contest in 2027 is working for the opposition and not for the party or the country.

“They are working for personal pocket, therefore, should not be listening to. We must discard their opinions.

“All dissenting voices in our party are working for their stomach, not for Nigeria,” Adewale said.

He maintained that none of the opposition party could defeat the ruling party single-handedly, not even Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Calling for a rejig in Nigeria’s electoral system to deepen democracy, Adewale claimed that he had been allegedly robbed of electoral victory severally in Lagos State owing to a flawed system.

“It is not about how smart we are, but about the system. It is not about how popular you are, it is about the system. We must join hands to correct this before 2027 polls.

According to him, Nigerians are tired of poor governance, calling for a change and breath of fresh air.
