OFFICIAL: Letter Sent To The Premier League Regards The Scrapping Of VAR—-“Wolves have formally submitted a resolution to the Premier League to trigger a vote at the league’s AGM in June, on the removal of VAR from the start of the 2024/25 season.

The introduction of VAR in 2019/20 was a decision made in good faith and with the best interests of football and the Premier League at its heart.

However, it has led to numerous unintended negative consequences that are damaging the relationship between fans and football, and undermining the value of the Premier League brand, which include:

• Impact on goal celebrations and the spontaneous passion that makes football special.

• Frustration and confusion inside stadiums due to lengthy VAR checks and poor communication.

•A more hostile atmosphere with protests, booing of the Premier League anthem and chants against VAR.

• Overreach of VAR’s original purpose to correct clear and obvious mistakes, now overanalysing subjective decisions and compromising the game’s fluidity and integrity.

• Diminished accountability of on-field officials, due to safety net of VAR, leading to an erosion of authority on the pitch.

• Continued errors despite VAR, with supporters unable to accept human error after multiple views and replays, damaging confidence in officiating standards.

• Disruption of the Premier League’s fast pace with lengthy VAR checks and more added time, causing matches to run excessively long.

• Constant discourse about VAR decisions often overshadowing the match itself, and tarnishing the reputation of the league.

• Erosion of trust and reputation, with VAR fuelling completely nonsensical allegations of corruption.

The decision to table the resolution has come after careful consideration and with the utmost respect for the Premier League, PGMOL and our fellow competitors.

There is no blame to be placed – we are all just looking for the best possible outcome for football – and all stakeholders have been working hard to try and make the introduction of additional technology a success. However, after five seasons of VAR in the Premier League it is time for a constructive and critical debate on its future.

Our position is that the price we are paying for a small increase in accuracy is at odds with the spirit of our game, and as a result we should remove it from the 2024/25 season onwards.”

Palmer led the Premier League for both goals and goal involvements last month. In four appearances he scored five times and got an assist.

Incredibly, four of his goals came in one devastating 21-minute period against Brighton & Hove Albion, as he became the first player in Premier League history to score four times in the first half of a Premier League match.

In addition to that incredible display against Brighton, Palmer also produced an assist in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace and a goal in a 3-0 win at West Ham United.

The 22-year-old topped an eight-man shortlist after the public’s votes on the EA SPORTS website were combined with those of a panel of football experts.

Palmer, who has already started October with an assist in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, will look to add to his league-leading tally of 11 goal involvements this season when Chelsea return to Premier League action against Liverpool on Sunday 20 October

Chelsea Gaffer Enzo Maresca Emerged As PL Manager Of The Month Of September—-Enzo Maresca has been named as September 2024’s Barclays Manager of the Month.

Maresca wins the award in only his second month as a Premier League head coach after leading Chelsea through the month unbeaten, winning three matches and drawing the other.

After a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Maresca’s team got back-to-back away wins against AFC Bournemouth and West Ham United, before finishing the month with a 4-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea scored a competition-high nine goals across the month. Maresca says the team’s form is credit to everyone at the club and not just him.

“We had a very good month,” he said. “We all need people around us to make things better. I’m very grateful to have all of them [his staff].

“We are always looking at new things and how we can improve from different football and different countries.”

Maresca becomes the first Chelsea head coach to win the award since Thomas Tuchel, who claimed it in October 2021.

The 44-year-old topped a five-man shortlist that included Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery, Marco Silva and Arne Slot, claiming the award after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of experts.

It also makes it a September awards double for Chelsea, after Cole Palmer was voted the EA SPORTS Player of the Month.
