JUST IN: Court Grants Emefiele N300m Bail Over New Naira Note Printing—Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail amounting to N300 million after facing a four-count charge for allegedly printing new naira notes without following due process.

Despite the charges brought forth by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Emefiele maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty during his arraignment.

As the sole defendant in the case, Emefiele appeared before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. The bail conditions set by Justice Anenih include the provision of two sureties, each possessing titled property within the Maitama area of the FCT.

Additionally, Emefiele is required to surrender his travel documents to the court and is barred from leaving the country without prior court approval.

These bail conditions closely resemble those imposed by another judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, who presides over a separate criminal case involving Emefiele.

The alignment of bail conditions underscores the seriousness of the charges and the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring accountability and adherence to legal processes.

Emefiele’s case continues to draw public attention, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness in governance. His bail serves as a reminder that irrespective of one’s position, everyone is subject to the law, and justice must be served impartially.
