Police Arrest Suspected Ritualist For Attempting to Sl@ughter Of A Young Hawker—-In a shocking incident, the Kwara State Police Command apprehended a 46-year-old man, identified as Isiaka Adeniyi, for attempting to slaughter a 10-year-old boy hawking pepper in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

The arrest took place on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in the Oke-Foma area of Ilorin West Local Government Area. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday. According to the report, Adeniyi lured the young hawker into a room under the pretense of buying pepper.

Details from the police at the C Division indicate that around 6:00 PM, a report was filed from Onidoko Police Post about the incident which occurred at approximately 5:30 PM. The young boy, a resident of the Abab area in Abayawo, Ilorin, was hawking pepper when he was deceitfully led into a room by Adeniyi. The suspect then attempted to cover the boy’s face with a cloth and slaughter him with a knife.

Fortunately, vigilant community members intervened promptly, apprehending Adeniyi and bringing him to the police station. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more thorough probe.

Commending the swift actions of the community, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, praised their efforts in apprehending the suspect and ensuring justice. He assured the public that the police would do everything possible to ensure the safety and security of all residents.

In response to this and other security concerns, the Kwara State Police Command has deployed tactical teams across the state starting Sunday, July 7. This action comes in light of previous incidents on July 7, where cult-related activities led to violence and harm.

The police have intensified surveillance and increased visible patrols across key areas. Tactical teams and intelligence units have been mobilized to respond swiftly to any security threats, ensuring the safety of lives and property.
