NASU, SSANU Joint strike, Shutdown FUBK Campuses In Kebbi—-On Tuesday, July 9, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) held nationwide protests on public university campuses.

The demonstrations aimed to demand the immediate release of their withheld salaries.

According to NASU national president Makolo Hassan, the protests were non-negotiable. He stated on Monday that both unions were determined to proceed with the demonstrations as the federal government had not addressed their demands following a warning strike conducted several months ago.

At Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna state, non-academic staff members carried placards with various inscriptions as they marched around the campus.

They called on the federal government to release their withheld salaries and fulfill their other outstanding demands.

Watch Moment A 100-Level Student Slaps Lecturer In Nigerian University (VIDEO)—-Thecloudngr reports that there was mild drama at a Nigerian university following the irrational behaviour of a 100-level student that slapped a lecturer.

In a video sighted by this publication, the student was seen in an argument with the lecturer while she was being held by security operatives in the institution.

What led to the alterations wasn’t clear in the video but it appears to be a serious issue to have warranted such actions.

Several Nigerians have reacted to the action with many assuring that the student will be expelled from the institution.

NECO: All Outstanding Allowances Owed Examiners Paid

NECO

The National Examinations Council (NECO) says it has paid the allowances of all 72,138 examiners engaged as ad-hoc staff in the 2024 School-based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

This is contained in a statement to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday by the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations of NECO, Azeez Sani.

Sani said the Council had commenced payment of the examiners allowances on Oct. 4, on bank basis, noting that this was to ensure easy reconciliation as well as avoid clumsiness in the payment process.

He urged the public to dissuade from stories making round in the social media that the Council had deliberately refused to pay examiners engaged in the conduct of the 2024 SSCE Internal examination.

”NECO has completed the payment of the examiners allowances as at today Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024 according to the payment plan of the Council.

”Also, it was discovered in the process that some examiners submitted incorrect bank details, which the Council has reconciled with the affected examiners.

”Out of the 24 banks being used for the payment, all the banks have been cleared.

”It is therefore incorrect and false as being speculated recently in the social media that the Council has deliberately refused to pay examiners engaged in the conduct of the 2024 SSCE Internal,” he said.

He further advised that any person(s) engaged by the Council should seek clarification/explanation from it, on matters oblivious to them before resorting to the media.

”NECO wishes to reassure its esteemed examiners and other ad-hoc Staff that the Council cherishes their invaluable contributions to the effective conduct of its examination and will therefore not take their renumeration for granted,” he said.
